| The smoke house utilizes an industrial fog machine to fill the structure with dense smoke, creating realistic conditions firefighters may encounter during an actual structure fire. Inside, movable walls allow instructors to reconfigure the layout, forcing firefighters to rely on their training, communication, and search techniques rather than familiarity with the building. Rescue dummies were placed throughout the structure, requiring crews to locate and remove simulated victims under limited-visibility conditions.
Training like this is critical to maintaining firefighter readiness. It builds confidence, reinforces teamwork, improves search and rescue skills, and helps prepare members to make quick decisions in challenging environments. The more realistic the training, the better prepared firefighters are when real emergencies occur.
Before even arriving at the academy, members responded to an actual vehicle fire, providing a real-world reminder of why ongoing training is so important. From training scenarios to emergency responses, our firefighters are constantly honing their skills to better serve our community.
Our volunteers continue to work hard every day to protect the residents and visitors of the Township of Hamilton. We thank them for their dedication and commitment to serving others.
