Operating on a high-speed highway presents unique and significant dangers for first responders. While firefighters are focused on extinguishing fires and protecting lives, traffic continues to move at highway speeds just feet away.

We are fortunate to work alongside the New Jersey State Police and the South Jersey Transportation Authority Emergency Services Patrol. Their personnel play a critical role by closing lanes, positioning patrol vehicles to create a protective buffer between speeding traffic and firefighters, and helping establish the safest work zone possible. Their partnership is invaluable and greatly enhances the safety of everyone operating on these incidents.

To all motorists, please remember that when you see emergency vehicles with flashing lights, slow down and move over whenever it is safe to do so. Your attention behind the wheel can make the difference between a routine response and a tragedy.

Thank you to all of our members, the New Jersey State Police, the South Jersey Transportation Authority Emergency Services Patrol, and our mutual aid partners for your professionalism and dedication to keeping our communities—and each other—safe.
